Low Sperm Count

Azoospermia and low sperm count treatment
Low sperm count is said to be low of it is below 15 to 20 million per mL of semen.
Azoospermia is a condition with absence of sperms in the sperm sample. Azoospermia is further classified as obstructive and non obstructive azoospermia depending on the causes.

In modern day science, we have specialised treatments for low sperm count and azoospermia

For sperm counts that as below 15 millions but abovt 10 million, IUI or INTRA UTERINE INSEMINATION is recommended. In IUI treatment, the husband’s semen sample is processed and healthy motile sperms are extracted and injected into the wife’s uterus. This process has a success rate of about 7 to 15 percent per cycle. IUI treatment starts to produce LESSER results when sperm count decreases less than 10 million. IUI also particularly suffers most when the MOTILITY IS LESS THAN 50% especially when accompanied with LOW SPERM COUNT.

For sperm counts less than 10 million, IVF PLUS ICSI treatment is recommended. This treatment is the GOLD STANDARD fertility treatment for men with LOW SPERM COUNT and poor sperm motility. ICSI stands for INTRA CYTOPLASMIC SPERM INJECTION. In ICSI treatment, an individual sperm is selected and micro injected into the oocyte (egg) of the wife. This achieves fertilization and subsequent embryo formation. The embryos formed after ICSI are then transfered into the wife’s uterus.

Icsi treatment is also used for the treatment of failed fertilisation and for sperms retrieved after testicular retrieval techniques.

AT Heartbeats IVF, in Panjim, we have all the above mentioned facilities for treatment of low sperm count and azoospermia.

Low sperm count can be effectively managed with very good success rates.
